Illinois Healthcare Jobs Available at Veteran’s Home

Posted on March 4, 2009

Almost 50 Illinois healthcare jobs are available at La Salle Veteran’s Home.

The La Salle Veteran’s Home has 49 job openings and is looking to fill those within the next 10 days. The home is looking for registered nurses and licensed practical nurses, as well as workers in the housekeeping, maintenance and dietary departments.

Another added incentive for nurses is the Nurses Loan Repayment Program, under which the State of Illinois will pay up to $5,000 each year for four years on student loan fees.

According to an article by The Times, Gov. Pat Quinn and Dan Grant, director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, broke a hiring logjam at the home. Grant hopes workers who are proud to serve veterans will apply for the jobs.

“There’s a much higher sense of purpose in working in a place like this,” Grant said in the article. “You can come here and serve the people who have served us.”

The push on hiring is being heralded by many state officials. State Rep. Frank Mautino, D-Spring Valley, said it used to take up to six months to fill one position.

“It seemed liked the veterans were not a priority, and I think under Gov. Quinn that’s going to reverse,” State Sen. Gary Dahl, R-Granville, said in the article. “Veterans will be a priority. He’s been a strong advocate as you all know over the years for veterans. We’re going to have the opportunity to finally make this happen.”
